About Dr. Rice

Dr. Rice grew up in snowy Buffalo, New York, along the Canadian border. He received a scholarship to study biology and chemistry at Canisius University, located in Buffalo, NY. He graduated in 1994 and went to medical school at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1998. While at the school of medicine, he was known to ski down the streets when the roads were too bad to drive on! He did his residency in North Carolina at Fort Bragg’s Womack Army Medical Center, and graduated from that in 2001. After completing residency, he was transferred to Fort Hood Texas where he worked at Bennett Health Clinic. He did a tour in Tikrit, Iraq as a Field Physician in 2003. He was discharged honorably as a Captain after completing his obligated years of service in 2003.

After graduation, he moved to Martinsburg, WV, where he worked in a variety of settings, from urban to rural, and in both Urgent Care and Family Practice. Besides Family Practice and Urgent Care, Dr. Rice worked as a Compensation and Pension Examiner at the VA for three years. Eventually, he opened two practices. The first was doing house calls, often with his dog Sugar, to economically disadvantaged residents in rural Hampshire County, West Virginia. He followed that by opening an office called Valley Family Medicine in Martinsburg, WV in 2017. After moving down to Virginia Beach, Dr. Rice decided in 2024 to open a Family Practice office here. Besides Family Practice, Dr. Rice writes Nexus letters and does exams for veterans seeking compensation from the VA for current medical conditions caused by their service.
